Wizz Air increases fleet and broadens services in Sibiu by introducing an extra aircraft for flights.
Wizz Air Expands Operations in Sibiu, Romania
Wizz Air, the low-cost airline, is significantly expanding its presence in Sibiu, Romania. The airline has added a second aircraft to its base at Sibiu International Airport, increasing its operations in the city and offering over one million seats to and from Sibiu.
This expansion represents a 48% capacity increase compared to 2024. One of the key additions is a new route to Milan Bergamo, which will operate three times a week, starting in January 2026.
The Milan Bergamo route is one of six new routes launched by Wizz Air in Sibiu earlier this month. The frequency of flights to Memmingen, Nürnberg, and Baden-Baden has also been increased. Memmingen now has daily flights, Nürnberg and Baden-Baden have four weekly flights each.
Currently, Wizz Air operates flights from Sibiu to Basel, Frankfurt Hahn, Hamburg, Madrid, Rome Fiumicino, and Vienna. With this expansion, the airline will operate 13 routes from Sibiu to six countries during the 2025 winter season.
This focus on Sibiu is part of Wizz Air's strategic approach to Romania, a market the airline has been serving since 2006. Wizz Air considers Romania a key market and has steadily expanded its presence there.
In addition to the expansion in Sibiu, Wizz Air is also opening a new route from Birmingham (UK) to Sibiu, starting in October 2025. This move is expected to boost connectivity to Romania's central region and serve both leisure travelers and the Romanian diaspora.
The expansion is further supported by Wizz Air's investment in infrastructure. The airline is opening a dedicated aircraft maintenance hub near Bucharest that will service aircraft based in Sibiu, among other Romanian cities. This facility will help support operational efficiency and aircraft readiness for the expanded fleet operating in the region.
