Marco Belpoliti, a renowned writer, essayist, university professor, and the director of Riga, has recently embarked on a new literary journey with his novel-essay, "Nord Nord." Published by Einaudi, this 288-page book is now available for €20.

"Nord Nord" takes readers on a captivating expedition to the North of Italy, exploring various regions and their unique charms. The story begins in Brianza, meanders through Milan, Bergamo, Monza, and the woods at Mondonico, before venturing further north to the Val Pusteria and Chiasso.

In this narrative, Belpoliti raises an intriguing question: is the Val Pusteria truly to the North? He also embarks on a journey to rediscover the source of Italy's longest river, whose waters eventually end up in the Black Sea.

The book is not just a geographical exploration, but also a culinary one. Belpoliti, following Artusi's instructions, cooks cod, a fish of the North, in one of the scenes.

"Nord Nord" is a finalist for the prestigious Campiello prize. Belpoliti has already won this honour with another novel-essay titled Pianura, for which he received the Comisso and Dessì prizes.

The author of "Nord Nord" is Gianfranco Massetti. The book features encounters with a diverse array of characters, including mushroom pickers, photographers, plant lovers, designers, writers, colour scholars, artists, poets, and poetesses.

Marco Belpoliti, also the founder of Doppiozero, has a deep connection with literature. He is the curator of the complete works of Primo Levi. "Nord Nord" is a testament to his love for storytelling and his ability to weave together fact and fiction in a way that is both engaging and thought-provoking.

"Nord Nord" is a journey to one of the many possible places to the north in the Bel Paese. It invites readers to explore the beauty and richness of Italy's northern regions, and to appreciate the unique stories that lie within.
