Union Tourism Minister, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, casts optimism on Kashmir's tourism bouncing back to its pre-Pahalgam glory by year's end. On June 19, he pronounced, "We're eyeing to regain that [pre-Pahalgam] tourism status by December."
Addressing the public, he encourages participation in the Amarnath Yatra commencing July 3, assuring, "Kashmir is secure. Tourists should explore the valley."
On his tour of the majestic Martand Sun Temple, Shekhawat said, " Built by Lalitaditya's hand, this sun temple dedicated to Surya was one of India's earliest and grandest sun temples. If it looks majestic today, just imagine its grandeur in its prime!"
Venturing across Jammu and Kashmir post the Pahalgam tragedy, Shekhawat assessed tourist activities, probing the concerned spots in Pahalgam and other historical gems like Avantipura temples. His charm extended to conversing with locals, including Sajjad Ahmed Bhat, who saved tourists during the violent episode.
Shekhawat acknowledged Kashmir's rich historical archaeological heritage under the care of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). With a gleam in his eye, he asserted, "You can count on the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, and the Jammu and Kashmir administration to bring back tourists in the next 15-20 days. Tourism in this land will touch new heights again."
Meeting Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was on Shekhawat's agenda as well. The duo mulled over strategic approaches to beef up Kashmir's tourism sector. Their discourse encompassed budding initiatives to enhance tourism infrastructure, trumpet heritage and cultural sites, and craft sustainable livelihoods for the local community.
Both dignitaries emphasized the importance of tourism, bolstering economic growth and fostering cultural exchange in the region amidst strategic discussions.
