Technology giant Infosys to establish a technology and innovation center in Connecticut, United States.
Infosys Establishes Technology and Innovation Hub in Hartford, Connecticut
Infosys, a global leader in next-generation digital services and consulting, has announced the establishment of a US$20.6 million technology and innovation hub in Hartford, Connecticut. This move is part of the company's plan to set up multiple such hubs across the US, with a focus on AI, machine learning, user experience, emerging digital technologies, cloud, and big data.
The new hub is expected to create 1,000 good paying, high tech jobs, and will accelerate the recruitment of "highly-skilled" local talent. According to Ravi Kumar, President of Infosys, the hub will strengthen their ability to serve clients in the New England region and expand the local workforce to help clients compete in the rapidly digitizing insurance, healthcare, and manufacturing sectors.
Connecticut Governor Dannel P Malloy described the establishment of Infosys' technology and innovation hub in Hartford as a landmark day in the state's economic development efforts. Malloy also expressed excitement about the value Infosys will bring to Connecticut's business community.
As part of the company's establishment of the hub in Hartford, the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) will provide up to US$12 million in grants after certain job creation milestones are met through 'Malloys First Five Plus Program'. Infosys is eligible to receive up to US$2 million in training grants to support partnerships with local education organizations.
The hub will place Infosys in proximity to its "valued clients". Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin is enthused by the announcement, stating that Infosys making Hartford one of their four innovation hubs in the United States is a significant development for the city. However, Bronin did not mention any specific number of jobs or grants, but expressed general enthusiasm about the Infosys project.
Infosys had previously announced plans to establish multiple technology and innovation hubs across the US, with the selection of Indianapolis, Indiana; Raleigh, North Carolina; and Providence, Rhode Island as other locations. The company's decision to choose Hartford underscores Connecticut's tremendous assets and talent pipeline, which continue to attract high-caliber companies to the state, according to Malloy.
The exact government agency financially supporting Infosys in establishing their technology and innovation center in Connecticut remains undisclosed. However, the incentives in place can support up to 2,000 jobs for Infosys, if they significantly exceed 1,000 jobs.
The establishment of Infosys' technology and innovation hub in Hartford is a testament to the city's growing status as a hub for technology and innovation. As the digital landscape continues to evolve, the presence of innovative companies like Infosys is crucial to Connecticut's economic growth and competitiveness in the digital age.
