South Hessen's cultural summer 2025 commences with an expansive event lineup, marking a new high.

Ready to dive into a cultural extravaganza like never before? Get ready to soak up the artsy vibes of South Hesse as the Culture Summer South Hesse (KUSS) returns for its jaw-dropping 32nd edition on June 1, 2025! This summer, prepare for a smorgasbord of music, theater, dance, film, visual arts, and interdisciplinary projects that will leave you breathless until the end of September.

This year, the festivities are set to kick off in style at the Ludwig-Bergsträßer Hall of the Darmstadt Government Presidency. Government President Prof. Dr. Jan Hilligardt will grace the traditional venue, stressing its importance as a melting pot for cultural exchange. The building will celebrate its 80th anniversary, while the in-house Regional Gallery will join the birthday party as part of this year's KUSS.

Landrat Klaus Peter Schellhaas, chairman of the supporting association, takes a moment to thank the sponsors, particularly the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art and the Sparkassen-Kulturstiftung Hessen-Thüringen. Schellhaas emphasizes the core values of cultural participation, reflection, and creative encounters that the Culture Summer aims to foster. The event also sets significant impact in rural areas.

Mark your calendars for June 28, as the official start unfurls at the Rüsselsheim Film Days. This popular short film festival will transform the Theaterplatz into a lively open-air stage for satirical film art, discussions with filmmakers, and live music. And the fun begins early, with individual events starting on June 1.

Fasten your seatbelts as you feast your eyes on a plethora of cultural highlights in 2025. From OpernAir in the Bensheim Furstenlager to Sound of the Forest at the Marbachstausee, or classic theater performances like the Heppenheim Festspiele, there's something for everyone. Free groups and formats like the Dada-inspired theater team Spiellust or the family-friendly TrommerSommer will sprinkle a creative twist. Cabaret enthusiasts won't be left behind, with the Heppenheim Gassensensation catering to their every need.

Younger generations are not forgotten in this celebration of culture. Around 30 projects within the "Young KUSS" initiative – including theater, dance, and circus offerings – will create a playground of creativity for children and young people, especially in rural areas.

The Culture Summer will reach its conclusion on September 27 and 28 with the Days of Open Ateliers. Up to 80 ateliers throughout South Hesse will open their doors, giving you a peek into the artistic process and inviting your participation. This creative climax, sponsored by LOTTO Hessen, will be documented in its very own brochure.

Managing Director Marina Stuckert is filled with praise for the region's offerings: "I am impressed by the diversity our region has." The event calendar will be released by late May, and all dates can be viewed on the website www.kultursommer-suedhessen.de. Music lovers, theater enthusiasts, or art aficionados – the Culture Summer 2025 invites one and all to be inspired.
