Shashi Tharoor Appeals to S. Jaishankar for Aid in Rescuing an Indian Stranded at a High Summit in North America
New Delhi: A Plea for Help on Mount Denali
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has appealed to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to aid in the rescue of Shaikh Hassan Khan - a courageous, ambitious climber from Thiruvananthapuram, his Lok Sabha constituency. Stranded at the 17,000-foot base camp on Mount Denali in Alaska, the climber is in a perilous situation.
In a letter to Mr Jaishankar, Mr Tharoor voiced his concerns about the precarious circumstances Mr Khan finds himself in and urged Indian officials to collaborate with their American counterparts for an swift rescue operation.
On X (formerly Twitter), Mr Tharoor shared his distress, stating, "A tragic turn on Mount Denali. My urgent plea for assistance to the Foreign Minister and our diplomats in the US."
This young man, Shaikh Hassan Khan, is a committed and determined Indian who has been scaling the highest peaks as part of the "7 Summits Expedition," an ambitious project carrying a deeper meaning - Operation Sindoor, a tribute to the Pulwama martyrs.
Khan has scaled numerous peaks, including Australia's Mount Kosciuszko, the world's highest active volcano, Ojos del Salado, and most recently, Aconcagua, South America's highest peak.
In November 2024, Mr Tharoor touted Khan's achievements on X, writing that he had become the first Indian to conquer the highest peaks on each continent, calling it his "7 Summits Expedition."
The incident on Mount Denali underscores the hazards of high-altitude mountaineering and the necessity of international coordination during rescue operations, especially in harsh weather conditions. Let's hope for a quick and safe return for Shaikh Hassan Khan, the heroic young explorer.
During his "7 Summits Expedition," Shaikh Hassan Khan, a passionate Indian adventurer, aimed to scale the highest peaks on each continent. While attempting to conquer Mount Denali, he finds himself in a perilous situation, requiring an urgent collaboration between Indian and American authorities for an adventure-travel rescue operation, considering the harsh travel conditions on the mountain.
