Riyadh Metro's Blue & Red Lines Open Soon: Siemens' Trains & Tech Revolutionize Saudi Capital's Transport
Riyadh's sprawling mass transit project is nearing completion. The six-line metro system, spanning 176km, and a bus network covering 1,900km, are set to revolutionise the Saudi capital's public transport. Siemens Mobility has played a pivotal role in this project, delivering 67 state-of-the-art trains and modernising the signalling systems.
Siemens Mobility's CEO, Michael Peter, lauded the project, stating it supports Riyadh's growing population and economy, offering sustainable and efficient transportation. The company has equipped the Blue and Red Lines with the latest Communications-based Train Control System (CBTC), ensuring safe and reliable operations.
The Blue Line, stretching 39km, and the Red Line, spanning 40km, are both fully automated, driven by 67 Siemens Mobility Inspiro trains. Passenger operations on the Blue Line commence on December 1st, with the Red Line following on December 15.
The project is led by a consortium headed by Bechtel, Almabani, and Consolidated Contractors Company, with Siemens Mobility as a key collaborator. Siemens has also secured a separate service contract for the maintenance of all its components and systems, along with the track infrastructure, for an additional three years.
The Riyadh Metro's Blue and Red Lines are set to transform urban mobility in the Saudi capital. With Siemens Mobility's advanced trains and modernised signalling systems, the lines promise efficient, sustainable, and safe transportation for Riyadh's residents and visitors.
