The 31st edition of the Saalekreis Regional Yearbook was presented on September 18, 2025, at the newly opened Tierpark Café of the Petersberg Zoo. Michael Dubberke, chairman of the Petersberg Recreation Area Association e.V., and Marie Reppe, director of the Petersberg Museum, were the hosts of the event.
Attended by Hartmut Handschak, district administrator of the area, the presentation marked another milestone in the history of the Regional Yearbook. Since its inception in 1995, the yearbook has been a significant document for the region, showcasing its richness and diversity.
The Regional Yearbook is not just a historical record but also an intriguing compilation of anecdotes, artistic treasures, and insights into the cultural life of the Saalekreis. Over the years, it has grown to include 736 articles, spanning 31 editions.
This year's edition offers a retrospective on the 9th Carl Loewe Festival, which took place in April of the previous year, as well as a touristic and historical excursion through the municipality of Kloschwitz with the mining site Johannashall. It also features articles on the two Bismarck towers in the Saalekreis, located in Petersberg and Wettin-Löbejün.
The yearbook also includes information about the state garden show in 2024 in Bad Dürrenberg and covers various topics, including personalities, places, historical events, and fauna and flora with a connection to the region.
In his speech, Hartmut Handschak thanked the authors for their dedication and hard work in creating the Regional Yearbook. He emphasised that the yearbook serves as a valuable resource for both the present and future generations, providing a comprehensive and readable account of the region's history and culture.
The Regional Yearbook is available at the Petersberg Museum and the Cultural-Historical Museum Schloss Merseburg.
