Panda Express has introduced an innovative addition to their menu.
Panda Express partners with Mike's Hot Honey to launch a spicy-sweet Chili Crisp Chicken dish, inspired by the Chinese dish Chongqing chicken. This limited-time offering is available in select cities from May 14 through July 15.
The new dish begins with crispy, crunchy chicken pieces, green bell peppers, onions, and dried chilis, all wok-tossed together. The mixture is coated with a savory and spicy chili crisp garlic sauce, infused with Chinese spices, delivering the dish's bold flavor. A golden drizzle of Mike's Hot Honey completes the dish, creating a balance of sweet and spicy flavors. For those who prefer a fierier taste, additional packets of Mike's Hot Honey will be available for purchase at participating locations for an extra charge.
Food critic Reviews with the Blonde commented that the new Chili Crisp Chicken reminded him of Chick-fil-A's crispy chicken nuggets, with a similar taste and crunch. Although he noted a slight kick to the dish, he wished for more sauce and drizzle. Instagram reviewer Nicole Ludwig echoed this sentiment, expressing a desire for more sauce as well.
Chef Jimmy Wang, executive director of culinary innovation at Panda Express, said, "Chili Crisp Chicken is our bold twist on playful contrasts – a blend of sweet and spicy that's crispy, swicy, and just the right kind of craveable." By combining Mike's Hot Honey with its signature chili crisp garlic sauce, Panda Express aims to set a new standard for spicy-sweet dishes.
As of now, the Chili Crisp Chicken is available in Chicago, Houston, Las Vegas, the Albuquerque-Santa Fe area, and Atlanta.
Panda Express has previously entered the spicy-sweet arena with dishes like Hot Orange Chicken and Blazing Bourbon chicken. This latest collaboration aims to push the boundaries further by combining Asian and American flavor profiles.
