Norwegian Ambassador Boosts UK-Norway Energy Ties at Durham University

Norwegian Ambassador to the UK, His Excellency Tore Hattrem, recently visited Durham University. The trip focused on energy, green transition, and research collaborations, building on the UK-Norway Green Industrial Partnership and existing ties between the two countries.

Durham students and staff had the opportunity to engage with Ambassador Hattrem during his visit. He delivered a talk on conflict resolution in Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, sharing insights from his diplomatic experience.

The visit also centred around the 'INCLUDE' project, a key research collaboration funded by the Norwegian Research Council. This project aligns with Durham's work on energy transitions, particularly the GEMS project on geothermal energy led by Professor Simone Abram, Director of the Durham Energy Institute. Students benefit from educational links with Norwegian universities, including exchange agreements and a pilot exchange programme.

Ambassador Hattrem's trip follows a pattern of recent Norwegian engagement with Durham. This includes visits from the Norwegian Deputy Ambassador and university delegations. He also attended the Energetic Future conference in Newcastle, involving Durham academic staff.

The visit by Ambassador Hattrem to Durham University further strengthens the ties between the UK and Norway, particularly in the realm of research and education. It highlights the mutual interest in energy and green transition, with both countries committed to collaboration and knowledge exchange.
