Miss Read 2023: Berlin's Art Book Fair Returns Bigger and More Diverse

The 15th edition of Miss Read, Berlin's annual art book fair and festival, is set to be its largest and most diverse yet. This year's event, taking place from October 13th to 15th, will feature 340 exhibitors from 55 countries, showcasing a wide range of publishing practices, particularly from the East.

Miss Read has always been a hub for artist-run culture, and this year is no different. The fair will highlight independent publishers and their unique perspectives, with a special focus on the publishing scene from the East. This shift from previous years' focus on African publishing practices brings a fresh perspective to the event.

The fair offers visitors a chance to pick up magazines and books from a variety of publishers. Some, like White Fungus, 20 Seconds Magazine, and TAKE on Art, will have their works available for purchase or pickup. However, not all publishers at the fair will sell books directly. Some, focusing on B2B, may not offer books for direct purchase or pickup, and specific publications may not be explicitly listed in search results.

Among the many launches at Miss Read this year is 'How to Book in Berlin', a zine featuring interviews with independent publishers. The fair also brings together artists, authors, publishers, and hosts lectures, discussions, and workshops, making it a central forum for publishing as artistic practice.

With its expanded size and scope, the 2023 Miss Read book fair promises to be an exciting event for art and publishing enthusiasts. Visitors can expect a diverse range of exhibitors, unique publications, and engaging events, all brought together by a dedicated team of organisers, including a new co-director from Cameroon.
