Iranian airline Airtour to initiate flights connecting Tehran and Sochi
Expansion of Flight Routes Between Russia and Iran Announced
Moscow, May 26 – The Russian Foreign Ministry has announced an expansion of flight routes between Russia and Iran, including new services to Sochi. Details of the new schedule were shared on Thursday.
Iran Airtour will operate flights from Tehran to Sochi starting July 4, according to the Ministry's press service. The Iranian airline Mahan Air is also set to resume direct flights on the Tehran-St. Petersburg route by the end of May 2025, operating on Fridays. Mahan Air will also start direct flights on the Tehran-Kazan route twice a week starting July 2.
Meanwhile, seasonal flights between Tehran and Moscow, as well as Tehran and St. Petersburg, will commence on Thursdays from May 29, and on the Tehran-Sochi route on July 4. These plans were also outlined in the federal agency's message.
It was previously reported that Sochi Airport will serve a total of 85 routes during the summer season, with over 30 airlines providing transportation on these routes, including 11 foreign carriers.
Additionally, IrAero will launch flights from Sochi to the Turkish city of Dalaman on June 1.
It is worth noting that the deepening ties between Iran and Russia come in the context of broader strategic cooperation agreements between the two countries in various sectors, including military and economy.
The expansions in air traffic also reflect Iran's efforts to increase its international connections, as evidenced by the growing number of airport flights in general.
Svobodnaya Pressa reached out to the involved airlines and airport authorities for further comment but has yet to receive a response.
