Prepare for Traffic Troubles This Weekend: ADAC Warns of Heavy Congestion on German Highways During Corpus Christi and Summer Break

Heavy traffic congestion expected on German motorways, according to ADAC's alert.

Mark your calendars! This weekend, expect traffic misery on German highways as the ADAC issues an urgent warning. As early as mid-week, the roads are expected to be busier than usual. The cause? The Corpus Christi holiday on Thursday, a public holiday in numerous states in south and western Germany. People are keen to make the most of this opportunity for a short vacation, while some are wrapping up their summer breaks in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg.

On Saturday, the return of holidaymakers will exacerbate the congestion on highways heading north. Expect delays on these routes due to the influx of vacationers returning home. On Sunday afternoon, the short vacationers' return is expected, leading to further traffic jams. However, Friday should remain relatively less congested. Last year, the Wednesday before Corpus Christi was among the busiest days of the year.

Southern and metropolitan areas, as well as routes to and from the North and Baltic Seas, will be the hardest hit. The Corpus Christi holiday being a public holiday in Austria and Switzerland as well, the ADAC advises travelers to anticipate delays in traffic there too. Be wary of congestion, especially on popular holiday routes.

If your destination for the holidays was Croatia, you will have to contend with traffic jams on routes leading towards Germany as well. Delays are likely at German border crossings on autobahns 3, 8, and 93 when re-entering Germany from Austria.

Don't let traffic woes ruin your holiday plans! To avoid the chaos, consider traveling earlier or later to dodge peak travel times. Utilize traffic apps like Google Maps or Waze for real-time updates and suggested detours. Lastly, planning your journey well in advance can help you choose alternative destinations or transport modes if need be.
