Guiding Wanderers: A Secret Navigator Revealed

New Hiking Trail, the Zilpzalp, Elevates Wustrow and Surrounding Communities' Tourism Scene

Step into the enchanting symphony of nature with the Zilpzalp hiking trail, a new route weaving its way through the lush forests and meadows of several charming villages. This 23-kilometer journey, starting from Canow and ending at Seewalde, offers a plethora of picturesque landscapes, including the chirping of birds like the Zilpzalp itself - the trail's namesake.

Local councilor Steffen Franz of Wustrow, one of the trail's key initiators, explained the inspiration behind the trail's naming: "Walking here, one will be greeted by the soothing melodies of birdsong time and again." The inaugural walk invigorated the section from Canow to Seewalde, setting the tone for a promising future for this trail.

The Wustrow Working Group "Village Development and Tourism" had previously surveyed local businesses in the district and identified a significant gap in signposted hiking trails, as recognized by Franz. To bridge this gap, the Zilpzalp trail is set to pave the way for more tourism-friendly initiatives. As Antje Bahrmann, the first deputy mayor of Wustrow, adds, "The aim is to connect smaller thematic circular routes of 5 to 10 kilometers, eventually," with initial ideas for a route covering Wustrow, Neu Drosedow, and Seewalde, including the scenic Devil's Mountain as a breath-taking vantage point.

Connecting almost all the villages within the municipality, the Zilpzalp trail has been thoughtfully designed to offer a memorable experience, complete with bathing spots, picturesque locks, the beautiful wooden bridge over the Drosedower Bek, and plenty of refreshment options along the way. The trail is now available for exploration on the internet portal www.outdooractive.com, with plans to expand signposting next year. The project benefits from the support of the forestry department.

The trail's grand opening marked the presence of several enthusiastic hikers, including Steffen Rißmann, the mayor of Wesenberg, who expressed Wesenberg's ambition to follow suit in regard to creating designated hiking trails. Enrico Hackbarth, the managing director of the Kleinseenplatte Touristik GmbH, points out the potential for off-peak season tourism through activities like cycling, fishing, and hiking, making trails like the one being developed a significant boost to the regional tourism scene.

Discover a new dimension of home-and-garden charm as you follow the Zilpzalp hiking trail, where the soothing melodies of birdsong echo through the enchanting forests and meadows, reminiscent of a peaceful lifestyle. The trail's success could also inspire other communities, such as Wesenberg, to create their designated hiking routes, thereby enhancing travel opportunities for nature enthusiasts and adding a tourist-friendly lifestyle dimension to local regions.
