Göttingen Police Wrap Up Successful Biker Safety Tours to Curb Accidents and Noise
Göttingen Police Directorate wraps up successful Biker Safety Tours, aiming to reduce motorcycle accidents and air pollution in popular hotspots. The initiative, adapted from Hesse's 'Bike Concept', saw overwhelming participation and positive feedback.
The Göttingen Police Directorate, in collaboration with the Hesse Police Presidency, concluded two Biker Safety Tours in the Harz on Saturday, 21 June. The tours, led by police officers, focused on raising awareness about hazardous areas, vehicle condition, and protective clothing among motorcyclists.
The initiative, adapted from the South Hessian Police Headquarters' 'Bike Concept' launched in 2019, was the first of its kind in Lower Saxony. It addressed the high number of motorcyclist fatalities and serious injuries in the region, with 11 deaths and 153 severe injuries in 2024 alone. Residents in hotspots also faced air pollution, sometimes due to vehicle modifications.
The tours, involving network partners providing first aid tips, were flanked by prevention actions like 'Coffee instead of Knuckles' and a Motorcycle Safety Day. Over 150 registrations were received, and the tours were fully booked, indicating strong support from the motorcycling community. Participants consistently provided positive feedback.
The success of the Biker Safety Tours has led to plans to evaluate the prevention offer in detail and establish it in southern Lower Saxony. The aim is to prevent serious accidents and raise awareness among motorcyclists, contributing to safer roads and reduced air pollution in hotspot areas.
