The 'Into the Middle' actions will revolve around this unusual hub, showcasing why Giessen is ELEPHANTASIC. The city's marketing team has delved into its past, uncovering the history of Elephant Square and its connection to exotic animals like elephants in the 19th century. The Tourist Information Centre will provide free information on events, sights, and leisure activities, along with regional products and city tour tickets.
Giessen's Economic Development is bringing elephant-themed installations to the city this summer. While the origin of the 'Elefantentor' in the city centre remains a mystery, the city is embracing its elephant heritage. This year, the Gießen Christmas ball will have an elephant toilet-inspired motif, with sales starting in mid-November. Fans can also purchase colourful T-shirts featuring the elephant toilet design for 14.95 € each, made of cotton and processed regionally.
