In Kazakhstan, specialists are expressing growing concern over the increase in road traffic accidents, with over 31,000 accidents recorded in 2024, almost double the number from 2023. Regrettably, more than 40,000 people were injured, and 2,452 died as a result of these accidents.

However, the emergency medical services in Kazakhstan have shown promising indicators, comparable to those in developed countries. In cities, the average time for emergency services to arrive at the scene of an accident is just 8 minutes, while in rural areas, it is 9 minutes.

The National Scientific Center for Traumatology and Orthopedics, a leading platform for training personnel, graduated 15 residents and trained 110 specialists from regions in 2024. The center implemented 20 new diagnostic and treatment methods in the past year and performed over 1,556 high-tech operations.

Olzhas Bekarisov, the director of the National Scientific Center for Traumatology and Orthopedics, emphasized the importance of strengthening preventive measures, modernizing emergency care, developing an early rehabilitation system, and inter-agency cooperation to reduce road traffic injuries.

While the mortality rate from injuries in Kazakhstan has decreased by 19% over the past five years, specific data on overall mortality decreases or precise regional reductions are not detailed in the available sources. However, the largest decrease in mortality from injuries was recorded in Akmolinsk, Kostanai, North Kazakhstan regions, and Almaty city, with a decrease ranging from 23% to 38%.

Regarding road traffic accidents, specialists' concerns center around high fatality rates and severe brain injuries, especially related to motorcyclists. Motorcyclists have a significantly higher risk of death and severe brain injuries compared to other drivers. Helmet use dramatically reduces severe brain injuries and fatalities, but lack of helmet use increases the risk substantially.

In summary, while direct statistics for Kazakhstan are limited, specialists likely prioritize addressing road traffic accidents due to their high injury severity, focusing on prevention (helmet use and regulations) and emergency response improvements. The National Scientific Center for Traumatology and Orthopedics named after academician N.D. Batpenov performed over 11,000 operations in 2024, including 1,720 joint replacements, 1,500 spine surgeries, and over 2,000 arthroscopic interventions. More than 2.5 million people sought help from traumatologists in 2024, and the average time to transport the injured to hospitals is 35 minutes. In hospitals specializing in traumatology and orthopedics, 240,000 patients were treated, and over 130,000 operations were performed. The center also obtained 11 patents and published 42 scientific articles, including in international peer-reviewed journals.
