Course on Calligraphy: Humanistic Curse Script

In the picturesque town of Amberg, Germany, an intriguing calligraphy course is set to take place on Saturday, January 20, 2024. The course, organised by the Amberg Foundation for Today's Writing, is shrouded in a bit of mystery, as the script it focuses on, the Amberg script, is not widely recognised in major calligraphy resources.

The course, led by calligrapher Brigitte Herrneder, will delve into the historical development and characteristic features of this lesser-known script. Participants, both with and without prior knowledge, are encouraged to attend, with the minimum number of attendees set at 9 and the maximum at 16.

The location of the course is the Oberpfalz Medien GmbH - Verlagshaus Amberg, Muhlgasse 2, 92224 Amberg. Tickets are available for purchase in business offices in Weiden and Amberg, or online. The fee for subscribers is 69,- €, and for non-subscribers, it is 79,- €. The fee includes script and exercise paper.

Participants are asked to bring standard calligraphy materials, a water glass, a cloth or Zewa, pencils (especially a soft pencil/approx. 2B), aquarelle or colored pencils, an eraser, a ruler or set square, short texts or quotes that they would like to write, and papers that do not bleed when writing with ink.

Meanwhile, in the neighbouring town of Mitterteich, Oppl, a traditional Zoiglstube, has announced its decision to stop serving beer. This decision has been explained by Wilhelm and Elisabeth Oppl, the proprietors of the establishment.

Elsewhere in Germany, glacier melt is causing long-forgotten remnants to reappear, posing challenges to tourism. In Neunburg vorm Wald, a body found in a burned-out car in Stetten is under investigation by the Amberg Criminal Police.

In the world beyond Germany, a chain pendant shared by Laura Dahlmeier's mother as a symbol of connection has made headlines, while in Sulzbach-Rosenberg, a prospective buyer stole 2,000 euros from a car salesman.

As for the Amberg script, while it remains a mystery in the broader calligraphy world, the course promises to shed light on this lesser-known script, making it an exciting opportunity for calligraphy enthusiasts. For those seeking more information about the Amberg script, further details from the specific educational context or instructors may be needed.
