Nominations for the 2026 Felix Franks Biotechnology Medal Now Open

Beginning on November 17, 2025, nominations for the 2026 Felix Franks Biotechnology Medal will be accepted until January 16, 2026. The award is established in honor of the late Cambridge University professor, Felix Franks, a highly distinguished former Chairman of the Biotechnology Group.

The aim of the award, presented by the Biotechnology Group, is to encourage and recognize excellence in early-career scientists who have made significant contributions to the application of chemical sciences in the study of biotechnology. The medal is possible thanks to the generosity of Professor Franks' family, who have provided the funds for the medals.

To be eligible, candidates must have made outstanding contributions to Chemical Biotechnology based on published papers, conference contributions, or other documentary evidence over the past five years. Nominations are welcome from both industry and academia, and confidential work can be supported by multiple individuals if necessary.

Early-career scientists at any institution, whether members of the Biotechnology Group or not, are eligible for the award. The definition of an early-career scientist is typically someone who started their Ph.D. program less than 12 years prior to the nomination deadline. For full eligibility criteria, please refer to the Information Sheet for Nominators.

To nominate a candidate, download and complete the Felix Franks Biotechnology Medal nomination form, include supporting evidence, and submit a one-page CV of the candidate. All necessary information should be sent by email by 17:00 GMT on January 16, 2026.

When nominating a candidate, their agreement must be obtained, and the name of a second person willing to act as a referee should be provided. The recipient of the award will be announced shortly after the Group's Committee meeting in March 2026. The winner will be invited to present a lecture on their work at a meeting sponsored by the Biotechnology Group, where they will receive both a certificate and the inscribed medal.
