Baden-Württemberg Bolsters Switzerland Partnership with New Strategy
Baden-Württemberg has adopted an updated strategy to bolster its partnership with Switzerland. The Switzerland Strategy, approved by the cabinet on 8 July 2025, creates a political framework to drive cross-border cooperation in various sectors.
The strategy focuses on several key areas. It aims to deepen economic, scientific, and technological cooperation, with a particular emphasis on Artificial Intelligence, where Baden-Württemberg is already working closely with Swiss partners. Additionally, it seeks to expand sustainable mobility, with plans to fully electrify the High Rhine Railway by 2027. The strategy also promotes collaboration in the hydrogen sector, with both regions driving the development of a hydrogen economy along the High Rhine.
Minister President Winfried Kretschmann underscored the success of the partnership between Baden-Württemberg and Switzerland in economy, science, and technology. He highlighted the bridge function that the state plays between Switzerland and the European Union, as noted by State Secretary Florian Haßler. The strategy also emphasizes the importance of democratic partnerships, with Switzerland being a significant ally in this regard.
The updated Switzerland Strategy, adopted by the Baden-Württemberg cabinet, seeks to further strengthen and expand cross-border economic, labor, and living spaces with Switzerland. By focusing on key technologies, sustainable mobility, and democratic partnerships, the strategy aims to create a robust framework for mutual growth and cooperation.
