Don't Stop at These Rest Areas on the Highway - ADAC Names Worst & Best German Motorway Rest Areas in Latest Test

The ADAC has released its latest Rest Station Test, naming the worst and best motorway service areas in Germany. The test evaluated 40 rest stations across the country, with three performing particularly poorly and three excelling.

The three worst-rated rest areas are 'Fuchsberg Süd' on the A20, 'Münsterland West' on the A1, and 'Eisenach Nord' along the A4. These were often found to be overpriced, especially when compared to service stations near exits. The ADAC advises against refueling at rest stations due to potentially higher prices. Sanitary facilities at larger rest areas were generally modern and well-equipped, but some were not always spotless despite a high entrance fee. The testers were mostly satisfied with the food offerings, but only three rest areas offered fair prices. The test also highlighted major shortcomings in terms of child-friendliness, accessibility, and the lack of fast-charging stations for electric vehicles.

On the other hand, the three best rest areas according to the ADAC test are located at 'Fürholzen West' on the A9, 'Demminer Land' on the A20, and 'Sindelfinger Wald Süd' on the A8. Eight rest areas received a 'good' rating, while six were rated 'inadequate'. None of the rest areas tested achieved an 'excellent' rating, nor were any rated 'very inadequate'.

The ADAC's Rest Station Test has provided a comprehensive overview of the state of Germany's motorway service areas. While some offer excellent facilities and fair prices, others fall short in various aspects. Travellers are advised to check the ADAC's findings before planning their journeys.
